Shiatsu
Massage
Shiatsu is a Japanese healing therapy which literally
translates as "finger
pressure". It is based on Eastern Medical Theory, and is often called
"acupuncture without the needles". Comfortable, sustained pressure is
applied to points on the body, providing a therapeutic and relaxing
treatment based on the client's needs.
When we are healthy, we say
our energy, (Qi) is balanced and flowing. When our Qi is unbalanced
we experience discomfort, pain, disease or emotional distress. By treating
the whole body, shiatsu balances the Qi.
Shiatsu uses the acupuncture
points in the meridian system to affect change in the body.
These meridians (energy pathways) connect the surface of the body to
internal organs, and help to regulate the flow of Qi throughout the entire
body. It calms the nervous system, decreasing stress, and boosting the
immune system. Shiatsu also works directly on the muscles, increasing
circulation to help alleviate pain and discomfort.
Regular shiatsu
treatments
